Q. How does this 50/50 work?

 

Administered by the United Way of Thunder Bay and licensed by the Alcohol and gaming Commission of Ontario, the 50/50 raffle is a game wherein individuals purchase tickets for the opportunity to win 50% of the total money raised through the sale of 50/50 tickets. 


 

Q. Where does the other 50% of the proceeds raised go?

The other 50% of the proceeds raised supports a variety of registered charitable organizations in our region supported by United Way Thunder Bay, as well as Indigenous Youth Achievement and Recognition Awards. All monies raised will go towards funding various programs and initiatives that support the immediate needs of local people and families to ensure that they have access to food, housing, clothing, counselling services, transportation, and more. Funds will also support IYARA by recognizing and celebrating the accomplishments of Indigenous Youth from Northwestern Ontario.

Q. Who is eligible to buy 50/50 raffle tickets?

If you meet the following criteria, you are eligible to purchase 50/50 raffle tickets:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of purchase
  • Must be located in the Province of Ontario at time of purchase
  • Must not be one of the following:

o Full-time, part-time, or student employee of United Way of Thunder Bay

o An employee of the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario

o An employee of the supplier of the 50/50 System who are involved with the development and/or support of the 50/50 System


Note: Prior to the purchase of a ticket online, you will be required to verify your eligibility and that the information is complete and accurate.

 

Q. Can I play more than once in a game?

Yes. You can purchase more than one ticket per game.

 

Q. What are the odds of winning?

The odds of winning a 50/50 draw depend on the number of tickets in the draw. There is no limit to the number of tickets that can be sold. 



Q. How is the winning number drawn?

A unique winning number is randomly generated and issued by the electronic 50/50 Raffle system out of the numbers purchased for the draw. The mechanism for selecting the winning number is a computer-based random number generator that has been certified by the AGCO.

 

Q. When is the winning number drawn and posted?

Ticket sales will conclude on Tuesday, June 29 at 1:15 P.M. and will be posted on the www.uwaytbay5050.ca website following the draw. We will announce the winning ticket numbers on our Run the North Facebook Page, as well as contact the winners via phone. 

 

 

Q. How do I claim my prize?

The winner will be notified via telephone and/or email as to their win and how to claim their prize. You dont have to be participating in the virtual Run the North event in order to purchase tickets for the 50/50 raffle. 


Prizes will be awarded to the registered ticket buyer. Online ticket sales must be claimed by the individual named in the original purchase transaction. United Way of Thunder Bay is not responsible for any division of the winning prize amount to any other party other than the individual named in original purchase transaction.
 

The winner will then be paid by cheque or electronic funds transfer within 30 days of the claim date. You must present your text message/email of your online winning ticket along with two (2) forms of identification (including a government-issued photo ID). The winning ticket cannot be tampered with. The United Way of Thunder Bay reserves the right to deny winnings if the ticket has been reproduced or changed from its original state.


The winners of our secondary draw prizes will be invited to pick up their prize at the United Way office, OR if you are located outside Thunder Bay then we can mail them to you. Secondary Prize information is in the about us section.



Q. What currency is the prize money paid in?

All transactions and winnings are paid in Canadian Dollars. Prize will be paid by cheque or electronic funds transfer payable to the winner.
 

Q. When can I expect to receive my winnings?

Prize winnings will be paid by cheque or electronic funds transfer within 30 days of the completion of the claim process.
 

Q. Do I need to live in Ontario to play?

You do not need to live in the province of Ontario to purchase a 50/50 raffle ticket but you do need to be physically located within the province of Ontario at the time of purchase of your online 50/50 raffle ticket to be eligible to play.

 

Q. How can I pay for my online 50/50 raffle ticket?

Our online 50/50 raffle website accepts the following payment types: Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

 

Q. I cannot access www.uwaytbay5050.ca. What should I do?

Per AGCO regulations – please be advised that you must be located within the province of Ontario at the time of your purchase. Your device’s location services must be turned on to verify your location prior to entry to the online 50/50 raffle sales platform. Users must also agree to all Terms and Conditions outlined.


 

Q. I purchased a 50/50 raffle ticket but did not get my numbers. What should I do?

If you purchased your 50/50 raffle ticket but did not receive your numbers, please check your junk or spam folders in the event it was flagged by your email provider. If you still do not have your 50/50 raffle ticket, contact events@uwaytbay.ca and our support staff will re-send your raffle numbers (some verification will be required). If your transaction completed successfully, your numbers will still be part of the draw.

 

Q. I think I, or someone I know, may have a problem with gambling. What should I do?

Q. Why does www.uwaytbay5050.ca require my location and/or why am I receiving the following prompt: Ex "www.uwaytbay5050.ca would like to use your current location?"

Your current location is required to confirm eligibility. The raffle will be offered throughout the Province of Ontario (the "Raffle Area"). Void outside the raffle Area and where prohibited by law, rule, or regulation.

 

Q. What if I already selected "Don't Allow"?

Reloading the page should cause you to be prompted to share your location again. If you have specified that you never want to share your location, you will need to go into your settings to allow. See below for instructions.

 

Q. What if I receive the following prompt: "You must allow your browser to share your location to purchase tickets, please click "OK" to reload this page, then be sure to allow your browser to share your location to share your location when prompted"?

 

The browser should reload the page and ask you to share location upon loading.
Note: In some browsers, the popup may say "close" instead of "OK"

 

Q. I entered the incorrect email and did not print my tickets, how can I get my tickets resent?

Please go to the Contact page and request that the raffle Manager email you your tickets or contact events@uwaytbay.ca.

 

Q: What if I cannot purchase tickets on www.uwaytbay5050.ca due to Locations issues?

You may have told your browser to never share your location. You need to change that setting to allow sale.
 

 

Q. When I am trying to process a transaction it is not working? What can I do?

 

Please remember that when you are filling in the personal information at the checkout page the address you input must match the address of the Credit Card that will be used for the transaction. Please ensure all fields are inputted correctly.
 

 

Q. The site is not loading properly, and I am not able to get to the checkout page, What can I do?

 

Based on the browser you are on, please go to the settings then history and clear cookies and cache. Once completed please close the page, reopen and try again.


For iOS devices:
1) Go to the Settings App.
2) Go to Privacy.
3) Go into Location Services.
4) Ensure "Location Services" are on.
5) Scroll down and click "Safari Websites."
6) Make sure that Allow Location Access is set to "While Using the App."

Chrome has the same setting if you are using that instead.

For Android (though this may vary by version):
1) Go to Settings App.
2) Go to Location and make sure that it is on.
3) Go back to previous screen and go to Apps.
4) Go to Chrome.
5) Click Permissions.
6) Ensure that Location is enabled.
Note: If still experiencing problems, go to maps.google.com in your browser and see where it places you.
